Janis' Picks

I love Piperlime and I recently discovered that they now sell clothes! I appreciate the easy search-ability of the site and I also love that they collaborate with Rachel Zoe (can't get enough of her!) and showcase her favorite picks. In keeping with that theme I decided to create my own picks for the Fall season.

Shoes
Kenneth Cole Slip on By, Natural Snake embossed

Ahh... putting this together was almost as therapeutic as a shopping spree! (And if you're in the shopping spree mood and live in Ithaca, check out Daria's on Dryden for the latest Fall styles!)

Navy on Desire to Inspire

Navy made it on Desire to Inspire's Pets on Furniture Post!! Check it out here. I'm so proud of my little guy!

Great Minds Think Alike...

Yesterday was such a dreary afternoon. And dreary afternoons only have one purpose. So I promptly decided to plop myself on the couch and didn't move for at least 3 hours. Fortunately I discovered a Sarah's House marathon on the Fine Living Network. (Channel 159 for those of you in the Ithaca area.) As you may or may not know, Sarah Richardson is one of my favorite designers and this is her show on gut renovating an old house. The process is absolutely fascinating and the design is sublimely stunning. I love her taste. Anyway, during one of the shows I discovered that she used the same fabric on some of her pillows and chairs as the fabric on my laptop case! It's hard to tell from the photos but it really is the same fabric. (Made by bb bargoons, I believe)

I was beyond thrilled... my favorite designer and I have the same taste in fabrics! But then I realized how pathetic it was that I noticed that from a two second clip. I'll be the first to admit that, yes, I have a little too much time on my hands.

Team Abby

I'm so excited to share one of my recent projects. I designed these logos for a wonderful charity started by a friend of a friend. Carrie's daughter Abby almost died at birth due to complications. It was a traumatic experience for the family but luckily, Abby survived and she is a happy, bouncy, adorable baby. They overcame so much and had such a wonderful supportive team of family and friends. Now that Abby is much better, Carrie started Team Abby, a charity that grants "dreams" to other families in need. Here is her mission statement:
Our mission for the TEAM ABBY charity project is a simple one. At this moment in time, we hope to grant "Dreams" that can positively and profoundly impact the experience of another person or family. This might be something big, such as sending a grieving family on a well deserved vacation, something smaller such as providing items like books and blankets to give solace to a family whose child is in the NICU, or something far-reaching such as organizing a blood drive to help hundreds of people receive life-giving blood.

At this time, we have a few "Dreams" underway. We hope to formally found the TEAM ABBY Foundation in the future once we have a little free time. In the meantime, we are still pushing forward by helping fund a few Dreams for some very special people.

What an amazing and inspiring family! I'm so happy I could help them out. Right now Carrie needs your help on deciding which logo to pick. Visit Team Abby to vote!

Surprise Ball

My friend Margaret's nephew, Kevin, has recently been diagnosed with leukemia. He's a trooper and he's doing really well and I thought a care package could help cheer him up. Thanks to Jordan Ferney's recent post, I decided to make him a surprise ball. I bought some fun trinkets and wrapped them in crepe paper streamers to make a ball. All Kevin has to do is unravel the ball to find the surprises inside!

Get better soon Kev! We're thinking about you and are sending happy thoughts your way!

Farmers Market Goodies

I'm getting so addicted to the Ithaca Farmers Market. I always go on Sundays because that's when they allow dogs. Navy loves the Farmers Market too!

This is what I got:

1. Gingergold Apples- cross between granny smith and golden delicious, crisp and refreshing.
2. Tomatos- these were the best tomatoes I've had all season! So sweet.
3. Green leaf lettuce
4. bok choy- does anyone have any suggestions on how to prepare? I love how they cook it at the chinese restaurants.
5. Baugette- from Just Desserts. It seriously tastes like it was flown in from France. I could eat an entire loaf in one sitting.
6. Another amazing $10 flower bouquet from Plenty of Posies.
7. An Ithaca Farmers Market shopping bag (only $1) because I got way too much stuff and forgot my other bags in the car!

P.S. This marks Navy Bean's 100th post. Thanks for reading!!

9.15.07

Yesterday was our second year anniversary! To celebrate the occasion I thought I'd share some of the detail shots from our wedding. It was such a beautiful day and I wish I could re-live it all over again. I had such a blast creating my wedding stationery. The invitations were letterpressed by Page Stationery and I created my own ceremony programs, menus and table cards to emulate them by scanning the border and using the same fonts as the invitation.

I absolutely adored our wedding flowers from Cymbidium Floral. Jessica did an amazing job and was able to execute the arrangements exactly as I had imagined them.

Our cake was from Jenny's Cakes. I had Jenny copy the shape of this cake and she incorporated pink and chocolate brown ribbon that I picked up from M&J Trimmings.

Our wedding colors were pink and brown. Hence, the pink and chocolate brown candy. The groom's cake was a surprise for Mike. He used to row in college so I had Jenny decorate it with their logo.

The candy bags were imprinted by an address stamp that I ordered online and customized.

Instead of a guest book, I ordered a bound picture album from Kodak Picture Gallery and people were able to sign it like a yearbook.

Our tent was rented from Sperry Tents. They make their tents from hand sewn sailcloth and it's hard to tell in this picture but they come with white flags attached to the posts. (That's what sold me.)

Finally, these amazing photographs were taken by Jodi from Rhapsody Studios. I highly recommend her if you're ever planning a wedding in the Boston area!

Happy Anniversary, honey!

McGill Design Group

Desire to Inspire posted these before and afters by the McGill Design Group and I was so amazed that I had to share them with you. These are the most spectacular before and afters I have ever seen... I can't believe it's the same house! In fact, the only way I could tell it was the same house was because of the window placements. This goes to show what a little (or a lot) architectural molding can do. Look at the height that it gives to the rooms. Incredible!

Check out more before and afters on their Facebook page.

Farmer's Market Flowers

Hope you all had a great Labor Day weekend. I wanted to share some beautiful blooms that I bought at the Ithaca Farmers Market on Sunday. Plenty of Posies (607.564.7416) carries the most beautiful assortment of locally grown flowers. This entire bunch of chrysanthemums and dalias only cost $10! And her $15 bouquets are twice the size... absolutely amazing for the price. It's Tuesday and these blooms are still going strong. Treat yourself to some flowers this week!
