The other day Design*Sponge posted an excellent tutorial on how to make Ukrainian eggs. I had forgotten about this amazing art form. When I was a child, I remember attending a Ukrainian egg making party. I was instantly drawn to the intricacy and details of each egg and I was fascinated by the wax and dying process. The best part was the final melting of the wax to reveal a beautiful gem of an egg!

Nautical Stripes
Maybe it's because I just saw Coco before Chanel (an amazing movie, by the way)...
Or because I just watched Anthony Bourdain's No Reservations episode on Brittany...

But I've just been craving anything and everything with nautical stripes.

Funny Girl
One of my all time favorite movies is Funny Girl with Barbara Streisand and Omar Sharif. I've probably watched it at least a hundred times since I was a little girl. It's not that I'm a huge Barbara fan (actually this is one of the few movies that I can stomach her in) but I just love the romantic and stormy story-line with Fanny and Nick. And I adore the costumes. And the songs. Oh, the songs. I know you've heard "People" and "Don't Rain on my Parade" overplayed a million times, but have you heard it in context with the movie? I'm just a sap and they move me every time. And don't get me started about "My Man" at the end of the movie. I always cry!

Name that Font
I stumbled upon this poster on Rifle Paper Co.'s blog today and I had to laugh. As a graphic designer I'm always hyper aware of fonts, I guess you would say more than the average person.
Papyrus has the misfortune of being one of the most overly utilized fonts. I tend to see this used everywhere in the restaurant business... especially on menus. What exactly screams food about this font? Last summer I started taking photos of the numerous restaurants that used this font in their company logos.

500 Days of Summer
I used to have a huge crush on Joseph Gordon-Levitt from his Third Rock from the Sun days.
Mike and I watched this fun and quirky film over the weekend. I highly recommend if you haven't already seen it. And the soundtrack is fantastic. Visit the official soundtrack website to hear a sampling of the music.

How to Make Pocket Wrapping Paper
This is a unique way to create a little pocket for cards when you wrap flat packages. Start by cutting your wrapping paper (or tissue paper, in this case) to the correct length. Now, make sure to include extra width in your paper because you will be folding it to create the pocket fold.
Wait, we're not done! Add some pretty ribbon. Wrap around the package once and tie in the middle. Make a "V" cut in the ribbon by folding it in half and cutting on a diagonal line with the open edge of the ribbon creating the points.

A Bridal Shower Invitation
Our good friends from college, Michaela and Joe, are getting married this summer. When Michaela's sister contacted me about creating the bridal shower invitation, I was more than excited. Michaela and Joe had a really special engagement so we wanted to incorporate that story in the actual invitation. I drew the "map" in Illustrator and designed the rest in InDesign. I'm really happy with the way they turned out... and Michaela loved them!
