Chevrons and Pinterest

Pinterest is my latest obsession.  (My poor hubby... between my blog, Twitter, Pinterest, Houzz, and reading about 20 blogs a day our evening conversation has completely stopped.  He watches tv while I'm buried in my laptop!)  Anyway, back to Pinterest.  It's a highly addicting website where you can curate your favorite images from the web.  You just create a board, search other people's boards and repin or pin items that you see elsewhere on the web to your board.  It's much more difficult to explain it than to actually do it.  Check out my Pinterest and see for yourself!

Here I've curated a bunch of my favorite cheveron objects.  Are you sick of seeing this print?  It's everywhere but I still love it!

A Few Random Things:

First, have you changed your desktop recently?  I just uploaded this one:

But how about a fun Valentine's Day desktop?

Or a cute gorilla?

You know how I'm extremely picky about my desktops but these at Simple Desktops are great.  (Found via How About Orange)

Second, I feel like I finally have a grasp on Twitter!  Hallelujah, she's finally got it... about 3 years too late.  Ahh well, better late than never.  It's really fun to follow my fellow bloggers and I must admit, it was entertaining to see Kim Kardashian tweet seconds after her superbowl commercial aired.  Originally I felt overwhelmed by Twitter, that I couldn't possibly keep up and read all my favorite blogs but I've realized that Twitter is something that you keep up with, instead you occasionally check it like Facebook.

For those of you new to Twitter, these are some of the symbols that are frequently used when tweeting. (Figuring these out really made a world of difference for me):

#
The # symbol, called a hashtag, is used to mark keywords or topics in a Tweet. It was created organically by Twitter users as a way to categorize messages.

@
The @ symbol is used to call out usernames in Tweets, like this: Hello @Twitter! When a username is preceded by the @ sign, it becomes a link to a Twitter profile.  This is also the way to reply back to a twitter post.

RT
RT is an abbreviation for ReTweet, which is like Repeat. It’s like forwarding, but for Twitters instead of emails.

(Definitions pulled from the Twitter Glossary and here.)

For those of you Twitter aficionados, follow me on Twitter!

Third, have you read the premier issue of High Gloss Magazine?  Gorge...ous is all I can say.

That's it...  just thought I'd share a bunch of random things with you this Monday!

Navy Friday

"Yoda"

Happy Friday everyone!  Have a great weekend!

Shopping in the City: Mood

You all know Mood from Project Runway fame but did you know that they have a whole section of upholstery fabrics downstairs?  That's where I've been going lately to get my fabrics for my lampshade and for a pillow project that still remains on my long to-do list.

Have you ever noticed that they never show the outside of Mood when they shoot Project Runway?  That's because it's in a nondescript office building with a bland lobby located on the 3rd floor.

The elevators have that old fashioned gate that slides over the doors and there's an elevator operator!
You don't see that much in the city these days.

So you step off the elevator and there it is!  Just incase you forgot, there's a huge Project Runway poster in the entrance.  That show must have done wonders for this store!

Downstairs is the upholstery fabric section filled with aisles and aisles of gorgeous fabric.  I could spend hours in here.

Prints in every color you can imagine.

Damasks

My favorite section, neutral colored linens.

The bolts seemingly go on forever!

Love this metallic printed fabric.

Mood (get it?!) boards

Luxurious ikat fabrics

Trims

There is a big range of prices at Mood.  Typically anything from $30 to $8 a yard.  I'm sure there is a large markup at a place as famous as Mood, but for now I like that it is easy to navigate and there are always a lot of people on staff to help you out.

NYIGF

This weekend I went to the New York International Gift Fair with my friends Tara and Nathan from Ithaca.  You might remember them from when I blogged about their lovely store, Terra Rosa.  Tara and Nathan were visiting the NYIGF to buy for their spring inventory and I was lucky enough to tag along.  NYIGF is a huge gift trade show held in the Javitts in NYC twice a year that has exhibitors as big as Ralph Lauren Home to small mom and pop stores that make handmade goods.  Let's take a peek at some of the vendors.

My photos do not give you a sense of how massive the show was.  It was literally aisle after aisle of vendors that filled multiple football fields.  I didn't even get to the part of the show that was located in the piers along the Hudson River.

Cavallini & Co. one of my favorite paper goods stores.

Jonathan Adler, of course.

Dylan's Candy Bar, a NYC staple for children and grown ups alike!

Lilly Pulitzer, pink and peppy.

Loved this store- Two's Company, a home goods accessories wholesaler.  Their booth was impeccably designed and decorated.

I want these mirrors!

This was a great booth, The Joy of Light.  They make custom matchboxes.  And it turns out that they are based out of my hometown of East Hampton, Connecticut!  We joked that everyone thinks that we're from the Hamptons of Long Island.

Loved Emilie Sloan's booth.  She makes tote bags that are beautiful and extremely durable.  She has exquisite taste when it comes to color and pattern.

I recently saw Fringe candles at Gracious Home and fell in love with their beautiful glass containers.

This jewelry store called Dear Swallow had such a unique booth display.  It perfectly fit the look of the jewelry and created a sense of mystique.

I loved these cardboard tassles found at Tinsle Trading.  In fact, I was blown away by the creativity of the booth displays.

Pistachio Press was one of my favorite letterpress stationery vendors of the day.  Their designs were clean and crisp and full of color.

Lastly, we visited Voluspa.  I'm a huge fan of their candles (my favorite scent is Japanese Plum Bloom.)  They were exhibiting a new collection of kitchen candles by chef James Boyce.

As many of you know, my dream is to open my own stationery and gift store in Newburyport, MA.  So one day I hope to be back at NYIGF buying for my own store!

Thank you so much, Tara and Nathan for letting me tag along for the day.  I had an amazing time!
